Card Condition Reference Guide

At Orbiting Collectables, we use standard grading terms to describe trading card condition.

Below you’ll find our grading tiers with descriptions and example images for reference.

Condition

Description

Typical Features

Mint (M)

Fresh from the pack, virtually flawless.

No visible wear, scratches, or edge marks. Centering may vary slightly.

Near Mint (NM)

Excellent condition, very close to Mint.

May show very slight edge, corner, or surface wear only visible under close inspection.

Lightly Played (LP)

Gently handled but still great for play or collection.

Small edge nicks, light scratches, or slight shuffle wear. No major damage.

Moderately Played (MP)

Noticeable signs of play.

Whitening on edges, light creases, or surface wear. Still structurally intact.

Heavily Played (HP)

Significant play wear.

Creases, edge wear, surface damage, or small bends. Card remains intact but not ideal for collectors.

Damaged

Serious flaws affecting condition and value.

Major creases, water damage, tears, ink/marker, or heavy wear. May not be tournament legal.
